Flat Stanley’s friend, Flat Colby visited the Wallace Chamber of Commerce in June. Flat Colby met Heather Beard, the new Director of Duplin County Economic Development, who explained that she has been working to meet county business people, establish EDC as a 501c organization and network with south east N.C leaders in her first 45 days in her position. She explained the strength that Duplin County has that will attract businesses here, and the challenges that will need to be overcome.
Flat Colby also met Don Spry II, the Senior Area Manager of the US Small Business Administration, who discussed the new loans available to small business under the stimulus package and his efforts to educate bankers to the benefits of these government backed loans. He explained some of the requirements businesses must meet to qualify for the loans, and stressed the need for businesses to prepare a solid business plan to present to the lender. For more in
